Stepping into the enchanting city of Locarno for its international film festival was like entering a dream. The picturesque landscapes, with their vibrant colors and serene lake views, set a magical scene for the cinematic celebration. However, the city wasn't the only thing that turned up the heat—it was scorching hot, the kind of heat that leaves you longing for a cool breeze or a refreshing dip in the lake (which I didn't, forgot my swimming trunks!). But as fate would have it, my experience took a different turn—a test of patience, hope, and the kindness of strangers.
Creative vibes all over
The festival buzzed with anticipation, each corner of the town humming with conversations about films, directors, and the beauty of storytelling. Everywhere I turned, there was something to admire—whether it was the breathtaking scenery or the eclectic mix of people, all gathered for the love of cinema.
My Very Own Drama
Yet, amid all the hustle and bustle, my experience took an unexpected turn. My bag, containing my beloved tablet, headphones etc., was lost in the frenzy. Suddenly, my festival plans shifted from film viewings to frantic searches and endless phone calls, with a slowly dying battery. The joy of the festival was overshadowed by anxiety and frustration.

But this story has a heartwarming twist. The next day, having accepted the loss, I received a message. A kind soul had found my bag and placed it in a safe location. The relief and gratitude I felt were indescribable. Now, as I wait for my bag to be returned by yet another kind friend, I’m reminded of the inherent goodness in people. The world might be chaotic at times, but still it is full of kind-hearted individuals ready to lend a helping hand.
While I didn’t watch any movies this time, my first Locarno Film Festival experience turned out to be a testament to the kindness of strangers and the enduring spirit of human goodness. I’m filled with gratitude and it feeds my ongoing faith in humanity. The festival was not just about films, but about the connections we make and the stories we share—both on screen and off.
